(44 posts)A is free- B is the premium that everyone enrolled in Medicare (whether Part C- Advantage or traditional Medicare) pays. The amount you pay is based on your income. I have had both traditional and Advantage plans. The amount deducted from my SS check was always the same.
My knowledge is based on my own experiences and many years as an RN case manager for Medicaid and Medicare. As I said previously- yes if you want a supplemental plan to go along with traditional Medicare then that costs extra. That cost is what stops many of us from enrolling in traditional vs. Advantage. I happen to live in a large metropolitan area with many plans to choose from. My plan this year actually pays 185.00 of my 202.90. So my SS check increased by 185.00 for this year. I am a healthy, active almost 70 year old ( in 9 days) so medical costs are low. No meds, no hospitalizations. Medical visits only for routine check ups. Plus the Advantage has a $3000 dental benefit, free gym membership, quarterly debit card. Yes, there is the prior auth issue, but it has not been an issue for me.
