They're linked to thyroid cancer and I assume there could be other side effects. As a pharmacy tech, though, I see TONS of people taking these because it seems an easy way out.

I recommend getting your doc’s feelings on the risks vs benefits before you dive in.

Also note that if you have BIG weight loss, your insurance will consider skin surgery to get rid of the flubber to be purely cosmetic and won’t cover it. I recently lost a lot of weight thanks to stress and poverty (our landlord decided he was done mowing two lawns and decided to sell the house we’d rented for 7+ years, and the housing market has NOTHING in our price range, son lost his job thanks to two hurricanes and the park closing for a while, and it took several months to find a crappy duplex to move into…) and am pretty pissed to learn that sad fact. Just when I thought I might finally have recovered my self esteem enough after jettisoning my malignant narcissist of an ex 25 years ago, I’m now resigned to never looking for romance again. *sigh*
