Houston lost 30,500 jobs in July, according to the Texas Workforce Commission, with the steepest losses concentrated in education and government services.

While summer job losses are typical for the region, particularly in July, this year's decline was notably larger than average. The Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) reported that the drop in employment exceeded historical norms, signaling heightened economic pressure in key public sectors.
