"Arab ministers condemn Israel 'ban' on planned West Bank visit" [View all]

This is the headline from an article from the Saudi news site "ALARABIYA" citing sourcing from AFP in Amman. The foreign ministers of 5 Arab countries had planned on visiting Abbas in Ramallah as noted:

"The ministers condemned “Israel’s decision to ban the delegation’s visit to Ramallah (on Sunday) to meet with the president of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas,” the Jordanian foreign ministry said."

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz is one of the main radical right wing fanatics in the Netanyahu government and as has been the case for a very long time he advocates for more illegal settlements in the West Bank and this week Israel approved 22 more. He is quoted here in the article:

"During a visit to one of the new settlement sites on Friday, Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed to build a “Jewish Israeli state” in the Palestinian territory.

Taking aim at foreign countries that would “recognize a Palestinian state on paper,” he added: “The paper will be thrown into the trash bin of history, and the State of Israel will flourish and prosper.”

So much for the false front about wanting to get along with the neighboring countries in the region. The article notes:

"In June, Saudi Arabia and France are to co-chair an international conference at UN headquarters meant to resurrect the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

So the announcement of the new settlements by Israel may be seen in the light of that and the rhetoric against any sort of solution will likely keep escalating. In any scenario however the tight control of access to the West Bank to see what is really going on along with media access will remain tightly controlled by the radical right wing government of Netanyahu.
