Plus, it is in his nature to try and correct me when I say things. I have tried to impress upon him that there are times when it is not the best idea to be so 'corrective' when we are thus engaged. His natural competitiveness just won't let him stop having to be seen as 'right'.

He does try. He does care. He is just a Neanderthal when it comes to the more sophisticated side of human psychology.
